Lyngør – the best preserved village in Norway and Europe is a well preserved island community. Characteristic of the village are its white-painted wooden houses, distinctive small, chugging fishing boats, and smooth polished rocks. This is a unique spot. Asbjørn Andersen is a ”character” nearly everyone meets on coming to Lyngør. Pains-takingly he has put together a collection depicting Lyngør’s history, which is to be found on the first floor of Den Blå Lanterne. The collection is built up basically in 5 sections, and has been extended in recent years to include several new themes.
|
- The story of Anders
Olsen – Lyngør’s own Terje Vigen.
- Lyngør in pictures 1879
– 1969 with a commentary.
- The battle of Lyngør.
- Sailing ships in the
east of Agder. This exhibition has been staged
by the Naval Museum in Horten.
- Inga Brekke’s grocery shop and the history of the building which is now Den Blå Lanterne.

In addition there is some material on other topics, including: The barque ”Sunniva”,
Lyngør Lighthouse, the Pilot Service in Lyngør and the local coastal steamers, and several more attractions.
The exhibition has been set up in cooperation with the Naval Museum in Horten,
and we have obtained substantial contributions of material from Aust – Agder Museum
and from local historians in Lyngør. Lyngør Cultural History Collections also has its own
cultural committee, which works to promote culture in Lyngør.
The exhibition is open every day from 12 noon to 6 pm. Admission is free.

ISLAND WALKING TOURS
|
 |
In the last few years we have had a very good response to our ISLAND WALKING TOURS
around Lyngør. This is the original island tour with guides, which Den Blå Lanterne arranges.
|
|
In the last 4 years 22.000 people visited the exhibition and approximately
9.500 took part in the island walking tour. We very much appreciate your interest in the
exhibition and hope to see your name in our visitors’book.

CULTURAL JEWELLERY
|
 |
In the summer of 1993 Lyngør Cultural History Collections introduced its ” Lyngør Jewellery ”.
This piece of jewellery is made of real silver and the motive is the ” Najaden ”, which was sunk in
the Battle of Lyngør on 6 July 1812. Other motifs we have produced include Lyngør Lighthouse, MS Søgne, the rock known as the Iron in Tvedestrand, Risøya Secondary School, Fosstveit Bridge
and Holt Church. There has been a great deal of interest in the Lyngør Jewellery, and it makes an
ideal present as well as being a collector’s piece. We would be very pleased to make cultural jewellery
for others who wish to promote a cultural souvenir from their own district. Please ask for an
estimate.
